MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 American Legion baseball team dropped a 10-9 decision to Stevens Point in an elimination game at the Class AAA regional Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.
Point went on to defeat D.C. Everest later Thursday night, while Marshfield was bounced from the five-team, double-elimination tournament.
Marshfield led 9-5 entering the bottom of the ninth before the Sixers rallied, scoring five times, all with two outs.
The Blue Devils led 8-2 after scoring four times in the top of the eight, but Point scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning and followed that with the five-run ninth.
All nine Marshfield starters in the lineup had at least one hit. Mitch Susa had three hits, two walks and drove in two. Hunter Luepke, Trevor Schwecke, Paul Maguire and Braden Bohman each added two hits.
Schwecke suffered the loss, giving up six hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings.
Jake Brueggen started for the Blue Devils, giving up two runs and nine hits in six innings.
Wausau went on to beat Stevens Point 7-4 on Friday to secure a spot in next week’s Wisconsin Class AAA American Legion Baseball State Tournament at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield beginning Tuesday. Plays at 9:30 a.m. and Marshfield (22-7) will play at 7 p.m.
