SCHOFIELD – Four first-half turnovers plagued the Marshfield football team as it dropped a 28-0 game to D.C. Everest on Friday night at Stiehm Stadium.
The contest between Valley Football Association South and North division teams was the first conference game for both teams.
The Tigers fumbled the opening kickoff to set up the first D.C. Everest touchdown – a 31-yard pass from Riley Peterson to Alex Langseth that came on the next play, and a high snap on a punt attempt led to another short drive and Everest score in the first quarter.
Kevin Sandoval scored his second touchdown on the final play of the quarter when he hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass from Riley Petersen on fourth-down-and-goal following a Tigers’ interception.
Tanner Fowler returned the opening kickoff of the second half for Everest in what was the final score of the game.
Andy Goettl caught eight passes for 57 yards and Braden Bohman had 61 yards on the ground for the Tigers.
Marshfield (1-1 overall, 0-1 Valley Football Association South Division) will play next Friday at Neenah. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
