MARATHON – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys golf team’s season came to end Tuesday at the WIAA Division 3 regional at Pine Valley Golf Course.
The Dons finished in a tie for fifth place with Manawa with a score of 358, just one shot away from an berth in next week’s sectional and behind fourth-place Marathon.
The top four teams – Stevens Point Pacelli, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, Amherst and Marathon – earned a spot in the Division 3 sectional next Tuesday at Hunters Glen Golf Course in Crivitz.
Tyler Mancl and Zach Strobel shot 89s, and Jared Boyle and Jordan Derfus had 90s for Columbus.
The top four individuals not on the top four teams also qualify for the sectional. Tyler Ackerlund of Iola-Scandinavia shot a 79, Manawa’s A.J. Maertz shot an 85 and Austin Steffens had an 86, and Nick Cornell of Wausau Newman had an 86.
Jake Kubisiak of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption was the meet medalist after shooting a 78.
