NEKOOSA – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team swept five matches in straight sets to win the Nekoosa Invitational on Saturday.
The dons beat Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 25-21, 25-13; Port Edwards 25-11, 25-11; Pittsville 25-7, 25-13; Nekoosa 25-20, 25-15; and Omro 25-12, 25-8, to take the title.
“We were on fire today,” Columbus Catholic coach Kat Egle said. “The goal was a trophy and they played to win. The girls push each other to work harder. Our injured players are hoping to come back soon and the current players have set the bar high. I am proud of this team.”
Kendra Baierl had 41 kills and 13 service aces, Katie Hall had a team-high 30 digs, and setters Natalie Pospyhalla and Jennifer Reigel had 47 and 37 assists, respectively, for the Dons.
Maddie DeSmet added 24 kills and 23 digs, Celin Scholin had 19 kills and nine blocks, and Hall and Brooke Neider each had nine service aces as well for Columbus.
Columbus Catholic plays at Owen-Withee in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division match Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
