A number of former local high school athletes have moved on to the next level and are playing sports collegiately across the country.
Periodically, MarshfieldAreaSports.com will publish a College Sports Roundup updating readers of those local athletes’ exploits at the collegiate level.
Manlick playing No. 1 at St. Norbert
Elizabeth Manlick, a 2013 graduate of Marshfield Columbus Catholic High School, is a senior on the St. Norbert College (De Pere) women’s tennis team.
Manlick has been playing No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Green Knights, going 1-2 at each position during their first three meets.
Both of Manlick’s win came in a 9-0 defeat of Lawrence University on Sept. 2 in a Midwest Conference match at the Green Bay Tennis Center.
St. Norbert will play a pair of doubleheaders on the road this weekend. The Green Knights will travel to Illinois College and Knox College on Saturday, and Monmouth College and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday.
Hoheisel plays in opener for Whitewater
Nick Hoheisel, a 2016 graduate of Marshfield High School, is a freshman running back on the UW-Whitewater football team.
Hoheisel, a first-team all-Valley Football Association South Division running back last season after he rushed for more than 1,600 yards for the Tigers, had one carry for two yards in the Warhawks’ 51-3 rout of The College of New Jersey on Sept. 3.
Hoheisel and UW-Whitewater, the No. 2-ranked team in the country in the latest Division III national poll, will host Belhaven (Mass.) on Saturday in another nonconference game.
Kundinger starting for UWSP volleyball
Kendra Kundinger, a 2014 graduate of Auburndale High School, is a junior on the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team.
Kundinger and the Pointers are off to a 4-0 start after they swept four matches at the Winona State (Minn.) Invitational on Sept. 2-3.
Kundinger played in 11 of the 13 sets in the tournament, leading the team with 12 service aces. She also had 19 digs and seven assists in the wins.
The Pointers hosted Lakeland College on Wednesday and will be at home for four matches this weekend, all against Minnesota schools. Stevens Point will play St. Benedict and Macalester College on Saturday, and Bethel University and Bethany Lutheran College on Sunday.
Molter returns for Winona soccer
Darian Molter, a 2014 Marshfield High School graduate, has returned to the Winona State University women’s soccer team after taking a year off.
Molter, who led the team in goals (six) and total points (13) in 2014 as a freshman, started her sophomore season with a bang last weekend in Upper Michigan.
The Marshfield girls soccer program’s all-time leading goal scorer had the Warriors’ first score of the season and assisted on another as WSU beat Michigan Tech 2-0 on Sept. 2 in Houghton. On Sunday, Molter had one shot attempt but didn’t score in the Winona’s 3-2 victory over Northern Michigan in Marquette.
Winona is at Upper Iowa (Fayette, Iowa) on Friday before playing its home opener Sunday against Ferris State (Mich.).
