STRATFORD – The Stratford football team will go into the WIAA playoffs as hot as any team around.
The Tigers won their eighth game in a row, whipping Phillips 46-0 in the teams’ Marawood Conference and regular-season finale on Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
With the victory, Stratford (8-1, 8-0 Marawood Conference) clinches sole possession of the Marawood championship, its first outright conference title since 2007. The Tigers will host Colby (4-5) in a WIAA Division 5 Level 1 game Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
Stratford’s defense pitched its fourth-straight shutout and has outscored its eight opponents 305-32 since a loss to Stanley-Boyd in its season-opener.
Phillips ends the season at 0-9 and 0-8 in the Marawood.
Cole Hoffmann rushed for two touchdowns and Stratford scored four times in the first quarter to take a commanding 27-0 lead.
The Tigers made it 40-0 by halftime on TD runs by Dilan Dehlinger and Derek Marten.
Stratford had 14 different players run the ball and piled up 295 yards on the ground.
