MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield gymnastics team kicked off its season with its annual Black vs. Orange intrasquad competition on Thursday night at Marshfield High School.
Second-year coach Allie Dryer deemed the meet a success as a number of girls hit personal highs in different events and the Black team, comprised of juniors Makenna Gramza, Macey Smith, Rhiannon Rueth, MyKayla Gerretsen and Bailey Schmitt, sophomores Melanie Hafenbredl, Brooke McGrath and Merissa Immerall, and freshmen Amara Arndt and Maya Scheibe finished with a team score of 123.85.
“This team has huge goals, and tonight was the first step toward accomplishing them,” Dryer said. “Typically the first meet of the season is a chance for the girls to adjust to competing in front of judges and learn how to focus and channel their nerves.
Isabelle Jensen’s beam score was better than any beam score received by a Marshfield gymnast all of last season, Dryer said.
The Tigers open their regular-season schedule with a home triangular Monday against Sparta and Chippewa Falls beginning at 5:45 p.m.
