WAUSAU – Sammy Griesbach scored half of her game-high 20 points from the free throw line to lift the Stratford girls basketball team to a 60-52 win over Wausau Newman Catholic in the Marawood Conference South Division opener for both teams on Friday night at Newman Catholic High School.
Griesbach made 10 of 14 free throws in total, including 9 of 13 in the second half, for the Tigers, who are now 4-0 overall.
Andie Zuelke added 15 points, 10 in the first half as Stratford built a 29-21 lead at the break.
Stratford finished 20 of 34 at the free throw line.
Lauren Fech scored 21 points and Julia Seidel added 13 for the Cardinals, who suffered their first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1.
Stratford returns to action Tuesday at home against Auburndale.
