Owen-Withee sends Columbus Catholic girls basketball to first Cloverbelt East loss

OWEN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team suffered its first conference loss, losing at Owen-Withee 68-55 on Friday night.

The Dons are now 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division. Owen-Withee improves to 3-1 and 2-1 in the conference.

Owen-Withee led 33-32 at halftime before slowly pulling away in the second half. The Blackhawks pushed their lead to seven with 1½ minutes left and outscored the Dons by six the rest of the way.

Baylie Neider had a season-high 21 points for Columbus. Marissa Immerfall added 14 points, and Kendra Baierl had nine points and eight rebounds for the Dons.

Jennifer Wendler made 12 of 18 shots from the field and finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds to top Owen-Withee.

Columbus Catholic hosts Gilman on Thursday.
