RHINELANDER – The Marshfield gymnastics team had seven top-five finishes and ended up taking second in the team standings at the Snowflake Gymnastics Invitational on Saturday at Rhinelander High School.

Behind Shelby Rust, who won all four events and the all-around title, Ashland won the team championship with 134.15 points. Marshfield was a close second with 129.775 points, more than three points ahead of third-place Antigo.

Marshfield sophomores Brooke McGrath and Emma Haugen, and junior Isabelle Jensen each had a pair of top-five finishes.

McGrath was third in the floor exercise (8.7) and fifth in the vault (8.55), Haugen was third in the balance beam (8.3) and fifth in the even bars (7.825), and Jensen was fourth in the balance beam (8.15) and fifth in the floor (8.425).

Macey Smith had the other high finish for the Tigers, taking fourth in the vault (8.6). Smith was fourth in the all-around (32.125) and Jensen took fifth (31.875).

Marshfield’s team score was a new school record, coach Allie Dryer said, beating the old mark set at sectionals last season.

“The girls improved drastically on their beam routines today, and also had excellent floor and vault scores,” Dryer said. “We are really excited to see what we can accomplish this season and are hoping to keep setting that school record hgher.”

Marshfield returns to action Thursday at home against River Falls.
