Both Columbus Catholic High School and Owen-Withee High School had students diagnosed with cancer last year. Near the end of the 2015-16 basketball season, Columbus Catholic hosted a fundraiser called Hoops for Hope and raised more than $6,000 for the Marshfield Clinic Pediatric Oncology department. This year, the entire East Division of the Cloverbelt Conference is rallying together to present “The Cloverbelt Conquers Cancer!” event.
Every school in the Cloverbelt East will host a fundraiser during a home game this season to raise money for the Will Maki Family and the Marshfield Clinic Pediatric Oncology Department. Maki is a 19-year-old from Owen that diagnosed with bone cancer in 2015.
Even game will have specific events, including special team warm-up shirts and blind auction items.
The fundraiser begins Tuesday, Dec. 20, when Columbus Catholic plays at Owen-Withee. The event was originally schedule for Friday, Dec. 16, but the game was postponed due to a winter storm.
Other fundraisers scheduled include: Neillsville at Colby on Dec. 22; Granton at Loyal on Jan. 5; Colby at Spencer at Jan. 10; Loyal at Greenwood for a boys/girls doubleheader on Jan. 24; Gilman at Granton on Jan. 26; Greenwood at Neillsville on Jan. 27; Spencer at Gilman on Feb. 2; and Owen-Withee at Columbus Catholic on Feb. 7.
