AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team pulled out a big early-season victory, edging Marathon 64-61 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale led 36-33 at halftime and held off the Raiders from there.
The Apaches are now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the Marawood South, while Marathon drops to 2-2 and 1-1 in the conference.
Caleb Weinfurter made five 3-pointers and scored 18 points for the Apaches. Collin Hawkins also had 18 points, making 8 of 12 shots from the field.
Overall, Auburndale was 21 of 39 from the field, including 11 of 23 from 3-point range. In addition to Weinfurter, who was 5 of 11 from long range, Colton Wright added three 3-pointers and added 13 points for the Apaches.
Auburndale hosts Athens for a nonconference game Thursday.
