WISCONSIN RAPIDS – After a scoreless first period Wisconsin Rapids scored once in the second and two times in the final 12 minutes to down Marshfield 3-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Tuesday night at South Wood County Rec Center.
Carson Crotteau scored at the 4:59 mark of the second period to break the scoring drought, and Spencer Sparks and Colton Flammini added goals for Rapids in the third to put the game away.
Marshfield, which earned its only point in Wisconsin Valley Conference play with a tie against Wisconsin Rapids earlier this season, is now 5-10-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the conference. Rapids improves to 6-9-1 and 2-3-1 in the WVC.
Wisconsin Rapids outshot Marshfield 43-18, with goalkeeper Tanner Reany saving all 18 shots for the Raiders.
Marshfield had nine penalties in the loss.
“It was a frustrating night,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “We could not stay out of the penalty box in the second and third period. It kills momentum, and we can’t generate offense shorthanded.”
Haydon Roy-Peterson had 40 saves for the Tigers.
Marshfield hosts Merrill/Wausau East on Thursday and Chequamegon/Phillips Jan. 31 in its final two home games of the season.
