MARSHFIELD – Isaac Wellens and Evan Weister scored in the third period to lead the Marshfield boys hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Black River Falls in a WIAA regional semifinal Tuesday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena.
The Tigers (10-13-1) advance to a regional final at Chippewa Falls (18-6) on Thursday.
Zach Schmidt scored with 6:11 left in the first period to put Marshfield up early.
Black River Falls (7-16-1) scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead before the Tigers came roaring back.
Wellens scored 57 seconds into the third period on a power play to tie the game, with Weister and Ryan Krueger assisting.
Weister, on assists from Colin Barth and Isaiah Baierl, nailed the game-winner with 6:02 remaining and the Tigers held on the rest of the way.
Haydon Roy-Peterson had 37 saves in goal for Marshfield.
