CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Marshfield girls basketball team lost its playoff opener on Thursday, falling to Chippewa Falls 67-65 in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal at Chippewa Falls High School.
Marshfield trailed 24-18 at halftime and the entire second half before closing to within two late. The Tigers missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer that would have won the game. Marshfield finishes the season with a 13-10 record.
Chippewa Falls (17-6) moves on to a regional final Saturday at No. 1 seed Hudson.
Chippewa Falls led 24-17 at halftime and had to hold off a big second-half run by the Tigers.
Marshfield put up 48 points in the second half, but couldn’t get closer than two.
Chippewa Falls held a 24-10 advantage at the free throw line.
Ema Fehrenbach had 18 points, Corianne Johnson had 14, Jenna Jakobi scored 12, and Meg Bryan finished with 11 points for the Tigers.
Lexi Hanley led the Cardinals with 24 points and eight rebounds.
