STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield girls track and field team kicked off its 2017 season at the Panther Girls Track Invitational on Friday night at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Tigers finished 10th out of 30 teams at the meet, hosted by Stevens Point Area Senior High. Marshfield tied Neenah with 25 points. Kimberly won the team title with 75 points.
Meg Bryan led Marshfield with a second-place finish in the triple jump (32 feet, 8 inches).
Other top finishes for the Tigers came from Maddie Nikolai (fourth in triple jump, 32-4 3/4); Stephanie Rhodes (fourth in high jump, 4-10); Alex Aumann (fifth in 800 meters, 2:34.11); and Shantel Nienast (sixth in high jump, 4-10).
Freshman Gracie Holland also tied a Marshfield indoor school record with a pole vault of 9 feet to finish 10th.
“We had a great first meet and scored 25 points in the process,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “This is a high-quality meet with over 30 teams entered. The competition is what we need, and even though it is extremely early, it is time to see where we are at.”
Auburndale also competed at the meet, finishing 21st with eight points.
The Apaches had three top-10 finishes. The 1,600 relay team finished fourth in 4:23.64; Rachel Gronemeyer was sixth in the 400 (1:05.23), and Amanda Momont took ninth in the high jump (4-8).
The Marshfield boys team will compete at the Panther Boys Invite on Saturday.
