MARATHON – Marshfield senior Derek Michalski shot a 75 to finish second at the first leg of the seven-meet Wisconsin Valley Conference boys golf tournament on Friday at Pine Valley Golf Course, Wausau East’s home course.
Michalski finished one shot behind meet medalist Josh Yang of Wausau West to help the Tigers to a third-place finish in the team standings with a score of 332.
Yang’s round helped West to the team title with a 317, five shots ahead of Stevens Point.
Zach Hanson tied for 13th with an 85, Grant Michaelis and Brendan Schneider each had 86s to tie for 17th, and Joe Kirschnik shot an 88 to finish in 21st place.
Marshfield will compete at the Sparta Invitational on Saturday and will play in the second leg of the WVC tournament on Tuesday at Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau.
