WAUSAU – Marshfield won a pair of doubles and one singles title on its way to capturing the conference championship on Friday at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Tennis Tournament at Wausau East High School.
The Tigers racked up 31 points to win the tournament title, and combined with its regular-season dual meet crown, Marshfield is the overall WVC champ.
Braedon Corteen won the title at No. 4 singles for the Tigers, beating Siam Rezwan of Wausau East 2-6, 6-2, 10-7, in the championship match.
Marshfield’s No. 1 doubles team of Derek Reckner and Jared Cordova cruised to the conference title, beating Josh Beyer of Shane Glinski of Wisconsin Rapids 6-2, 7-5, in the championship match.
Marshfield’s other title came from the No. 2 doubles team of brothers John Fay and Will Fay. They defeated Angus Blakeman and Carter Smigaj of Stevens Point 6-2, 6-2, in the title match.
Sam Haessly (No. 2 singles) and Erick Myklejord (No. 3 singles) finished second, the No. 3 doubles team of Ayush Shukla and Luke Kaiser was third, and Evan Fait (No. 1 singles) took fourth for Marshfield.
Marshfield will compete in the WIAA Division 1 subsectional at Tomah on Monday.
