Marshfield junior Sully Luepke and sophomore Elliot Ashbeck were recently named to the first team of the 2010 All-Wisconsin Valley Conference Baseball Team.
Luepke was named as one of four infielders to the first team after finishing in a tie for 10th in the conference with a .385 batting average (15-for-39). He led the Wisconsin Valley with 17 runs scored and was second with 10 walks. As a pitcher, Luepke finished 0-5 with a 5.29 earned run average, striking out 30 and walking 30 in 41 innings pitched.
Ashbeck was one of two pitchers named to the first team and also was chosen as the first-team utility player. He was 6-1 with a 2.44 ERA, striking out 29 and walking 15 in 37 1/3 innings. His six wins were the most by any pitcher in the conference.
Ashbeck also finished third in the conference with a .421 batting average (16-for-38), tied for second with five doubles and scored 12 runs, which was tied for fifth.
Senior outfielder Josh Lutz and senior catcher Brett Baur were honorable mention choices from Marshfield.
Lutz hit .308 with eight RBIs and nine runs scored. Baur led the Tigers with 12 RBIs and also hit .308. Both players were 12-for-39.
Brad Stroik of conference champion Stevens Point was named Player of the Year. Stroik was an unanimous first-team pick as a pitcher, going 5-2 with two saves and a 2.26 ERA. He struck out a conference-high 50 batters in just 43 1/3 innings, walking only fuor and giving up just 32 hits.
