LA CROSSE – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion baseball team had a rough weekend, dropping all four of its games at the La Crosse Legion Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Copeland Park.
On Friday, Marshfield lost to Winona (Minn.) 11-8 and La Crosse 2-0. It didn’t get any better for the Blue Devils on Saturday as they lost to Mahtomedi Kramer-Berg (Minn.) 5-1 and Onalaska 12-7.
Marshfield has now lost six of its last seven games and fall to 7-6 this summer.
Winona smacked 14 hits off three Marshfield pitchers in the opening game Friday night.
Marshfield trailed 7-0 before scoring eight runs in the fourth through sixth innings, but couldn’t keep Winona from plating a pair of runs in its last two at-bats as it held on to the lead.
Logan Jakobi and Andy Goettl each had two hits for Marshfield.
Jared Johnsrud was the tough-luck losing pitcher against La Crosse, throwing a complete-game five-hitter and allowing just two runs, both coming in the bottom of the first inning.
Marshfield was held to three hits, all singles, and struck out eight times.
The hitting woes continued into Saturday’s opener as the Blue Devils were held to one run in six hits against Mahtomedi Kramer-Berg. Jake Brueggen and Paul Maguire had doubles for Marshfield.
Onalaska scored seven times in the fourth inning to erase a 5-4 lead by the Blue Devils and held on the rest of the way.
Ryan Krueger and Connor Berry each had two hits for Marshfield in the loss.
Marshfield’s next game is Wednesday at Wausau. The game, at Athletic Park, will begin at 7 p.m.
