OSHKOSH – Andy Goettl scored a touchdown on an 18-yard run with just 15 seconds to go to lift the Marshfield football team to a thrilling 38-31 nonconference victory over Oshkosh West in its season-opener Friday night at Titan Stadium.
Both teams exchanged scores throughout the game with Marshfield never holding the lead until the final touchdown.
After stopping Oshkosh West with just more than 2 minutes to go, the Tigers embarked on the game-winning drive, going 53 yards. Goettl had a key 21-yard run on fourth-and-1 and the big 18-yard touchdown run on third down as time wound down. He finished with 80 yards rushing and 53 yards receiving in the victory, and scored twice.
The Tigers tied the game when Ryan Krueger threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Caden Pierce with 4:03 remaining.
Brant Bohman had a 92-yard touchdown run, one-yard short of the school record for longest rushing touchdown, and finished with 181 yards rushing in the win for Marshfield.
Marshfield hosts Appleton West in its home and Valley Football Association opener next Friday, Aug. 25, at Beell Stadium. The game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and on wdlbwosq.com.
