PARK FALLS – The Auburndale football team is playoff eligible after whipping Chequamegon 50-8 in its final Marawood Conference game of the season Friday night.
The Apaches are now 4-4 overall and finish 3-3 in the Marawood, becoming eligible for WIAA postseason consideration. Auburndale finishes its regular-season schedule Oct. 13 at home with a nonconference game against Whitehall.
The WIAA will announce playoff participants following the completion of games next Friday night. First-round pairings will be announced Oct. 14.
Auburndale poured in six touchdowns in the firsthalf to make quick work of the Screaming Eagles (0-8, 0-6 Marawood).
The Apaches’ defense and special teams also got in the act. Colton Yeske returned a fumble for a touchdown and Dylan Paun took an interception back 40 yards for a score in the second quarter, Yeske and Cale Jacoby combined for a safety, and Trayton Weister ran a punt back 50 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter.
Weister finished with 73 yards rushing and scored twice to lead the Auburndale offense.
