MARSHFIELD – A total of 53 Marshfield area youths participated in the fourth and final National Junior Tennis League competition of the summer on Thursday.

The U10 group played three mini-court competitions against the other four teams of U10 players, tried to win three consecutive points against their opponents in a game of Doubles King of the Court, and joined together on one court for a game of JAIL, where in order to win players have to hit the ball across the net and into the court without another player catching the ball. All games gave the U10 opportunities to score points for their team.
The U14 players took the court later in the day and played four-game sets of singles and doubles to earn points for their team.

Certificates and medals were awarded to a player on each team (chosen by coaches) who demonstrated good court conduct, rules of fair play, eagerness to participate, respect for others and were gracious in losing and winning.

Sportsmanship winners were: Taylor Reckner (Team #1 Classy ‘n Sassy), Ashley Schultz (Team #2 Racquet Scientists), Ben Behling (Team #3 Flamin’ Aces), Brandon Meyer (Team #4 Pretty Pink Rainbows) and Ayush Shukla (Team #5 Super Silver Smashers).

Trophies, tennis wristbands, and free entrance into next summer’s MTA tennis tournaments were awarded to a U14 boy and U14 girl who scored the most points for their team throughout the summer on our four competition days.

The girls MVP was Ashley Schultz, who scored 47 points for her team and the boys MVP was Jacob Limmex, who scored 35.5 points for his team.
