CHIPPEWA FALLS – Chippewa Falls scored five unanswered goals and pulled away for a 6-1 victory over Marshfield in a nonconference boys hockey game Tuesday at the Chippewa Falls Ice Arena.
The game was the season-opener for both teams.
Chippewa Falls scored two goals in all three period, and led 5-0 before Marshfield scored its only goal. Evan Weister scored on an assist from Isaiah Baierl and Ryan Krueger for the Tigers’ lone goal.
A.J. Trierweiler had 22 saves in goal for Marshfield.
“Clearly we wanted to have a better result tonight,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “In my three previous seasons, this was the best we have performed against a talented team like Chippewa Falls. The difference in the game was Chi Hi finishing their scoring chances, and us failing to score on ours. We had as many high-quality scoring opportunities as they had, we just failed to convert.
“We learned a lot about our team tonight, and are confident in the ability of this team to put together a successful season.”
Marshfield will play at Tomah at Friday in a semifinal of the Tomah Invitational.
