Columbus Catholic girls basketball tops Nekoosa for Cranberry Classic title

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – For the third-straight game, the Columbus Catholic girls basketball team found itself trailing at halftime, and for the third-straight time, the Dons found a way to pull out a victory.

Down by two at intermission, Columbus Catholic outscored Nekoosa by eight in the second half to pull out a 55-48 victory in the championship game of the Cranberry Classic on Saturday afternoon at Assumption High School.

Nekoosa led 23-21 at halftime before the Dons rallied for their third win a row to improve to 3-1 this season. Nekoosa is now 1-2.

Morgan Albrecht made three 3-pointers and was 7-for-9 at the free throw line to score a team-high 18 points for Columbus. Addison Baierl added 14 points.

The difference in the game came at the free throw line. Columbus made 19 of 25 free throws, while Nekoosa was just 10 of 23.

Columbus returns to Cloverbelt Conference East Division action Thursday at Granton.
