MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys basketball team set the tone in the first four minutes of the game and that stretch proved to be enough to lift the Tigers to their first victory of the season.

Marshfield began the game with a 17-4 run and never looked back, cruising to a 68-53 victory in a nonconference game Tuesday night at The Boson Company Fieldhouse at Marshfield High School.

Following a pair of lopsided losses to Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West to open the season last weekend, the Tigers came out with energy and certainty to their game.

Seth Anderson scored six points and Brant Bohman added five in the run as the Tigers took the big double-digit lead.

Marshfield led by at least nine points the rest of the first half, pushing its lead back to 38-24 at halftime after a 3-pointer from Anderson.

The Tigers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.

Bohman hit three 3-pointers during the first 7½ minutes of the second half, and Tommy Olson hit a shot from long range that help the Tigers go on top 54-38.

The Tigers led by as many as 20, following a 3-pointer from Isaac Meverden, with 4:13 to go as Holmen never really threatened.

“We talked about every time down we’re getting a really good shot and we’re getting a stop,” Scheuer said. “There were times where it wasn’t a great shot, but they went in. We hit some corner 3s. Brant is getting better at catch-and-shoot, I don’t like it when he puts it on the floor.

“Obviously you’re happy with a win, practice will be easier, but we have De Pere coming up and they’re really good.”

Marshfield shot 48 percent (26 of 54) and hit 11 of 21 3-point attempts. Anderson led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds, Bohman had 14 points with four 3-pointers, and Reed Miller scored all 11 of his points in the second half and added eight rebounds in the victory.

Kevien Koelbl had 14 points and Craig Newsome Jr. added 13 for the Vikings, who were playing their season opener. Holmen shot just 33 percent (19 of 57) and Marshfield held a 40-27 rebounding advantage.

Marshfield hosts De Pere in a nonconference game Friday at 7:15 p.m.
