PARK FALLS – Marshfield scored four unanswered goals in the second period to bust open a tight game and went on to defeat Chequamegon/Phillips 7-3 in a nonconference boys hockey game Friday night at the Park Falls Recreation Arena.
Marshfield led 3-2 after two goals by Nick Urban and another from Ryan Krueger in the first period, then turned it on in the second to take a five-goal advantage.
Krueger scored twice, and Justin Stanek and Dominic Lange also had goals in the second for the Tigers.
A.J. Trierweiler finished with 13 saves in goal for the Tigers, who improve to 9-8.
“We didn’t have our best effort in the first or the third period, but we had a glimpse of what our team can put together throughout the second,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “We need to improve on some areas of our game as we jump back into conference play next week.
“The coaching staff is happy with our teams general direction, as we have been improving a great deal and are on track to have one of the better seasons in Marshfield history. However, we have been making a lot of mistakes that can be cleaned up so we can be productive against better teams in our conference.”
Marshfield’s next game is Thursday at Stevens Point.
