MARSHFIELD – The 17th annual Marshfield Cross Country Alumni/Intersquad Race was held Saturday at Bream Park in Marshfield.
Thirty-six males and 23 females finished the race that featured former Marshfield High School cross country runners, as well as this year’s Tigers team. Eighteen alumni participated.
Alumni Sean Harrington (10:03) and Adam Steinke (10:08) topped the men’s race. Harrington won the men’s race for the fifth year in a row, but the Alumni team lost to the boys team 29-32, ending a five-year win streak for the alumni.
The girls team beat the Alumni for the 16th straight year. Amanda Whipple of the Alumni team won the race in 12:19, just one second ahead of current girls team member Rebecca Voss.
“Rebecca Voss ran the third fastest time for a female in our 17 years on this course,” Marshfield cross country coach Dan Akin said. “That’s a great way to start a high school career.
“I really liked seeing the boys gaps between our second and seventh men already only at 12 seconds.”
The Tigers open their 2010 season on Sept. 4 at the Marshfield Columbus Catholic Invitational, and host the Marshfield Invitational on Sept. 7. Both races will be held at Wildwood Park.
