Marshfield boys hockey player Ryan Krueger has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com January High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Krueger received 31 percent of the nearly 1,200 votes cast.
Other nominees for the January award were Spencer girls basketball player Lexi Baehr, Columbus Catholic boys basketball player Nick Malovrh, Stratford wrestler Jeremy Schoenherr, Marathon girls basketball player Katelyn Schmidt, and Abbotsford girls basketball player Dylana Schreiner.
Krueger, a junior forward, scored seven goals and had three assists as the Tigers finished 4-3 in January. Krueger had hat tricks in wins against Mosinee on Jan. 2 and Chequamegon/Phillips on Jan. 12, and had a goal in a shutout of Merrill/Wausau East on Jan. 25. He also had two assists in the Tigers’ win over Ashland on Jan. 6. He has 18 goals and 16 assists this season, both team-highs.
The winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced Monday, July 10.

Krueger joins Columbus Catholic boys soccer player Nadim Torbey (September), Marshfield cross country runner Joseph McKee (October), Marshfield boys basketball player Seth Anderson (November), and Auburndale boys basketball player Cale Jacoby (December) as winners of the award during the 2017-18 school year.
