Stratford boys basketball beats Pittsville for seventh win in a row

PITTSVILLE – The Stratford boys basketball team extended its winning streak to seven as it handled Pittsville 48-39 in a nonconference game Tuesday night at Pittsville High School.

The Tigers pulled out to a 25-15 lead at halftime and held on from there, making 13 of 19 free throws in the win.

Benjamin Barten had 17 points and seven rebounds, and Vaughn Breit added 15 points and five rebounds for Stratford, which improves to 17-3 this season.

Stratford plays at Marathon on Friday in a key Marawood Conference South Division battle. Both teams are tied for second place in the conference standings at 11-3, one game behind first-place Auburndale, with two conference games remaining. Stratford hosts Auburndale, while Marathon wraps up its Marawood South slate at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, both on Feb. 22.
