MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys soccer team rebounded in a big way following its first loss of the season.
Four different Tigers scored, including Matt McCann in the first 7 minutes of the game, as Marshfield rolled to a 4-0 win over Wausau East on Thursday at Griese Park.
Alex Kelnhofer assisted on McCann’s goal at the 6:56 mark to get the Tigers off and running.
Colin Telin added a goal at the 23:31 mark, and Jahnik Beerport added another with just 52 seconds left in the half to put Marshfield up 3-0.
Eli Oba scored the Tigers’ final goal on a breakaway where he made a move on the defense and beat the goalkeeper with ease.
Marshfield (2-1-2, 1-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) had another strong defensive performance, allowing just one shot on goal.
“I’ve got to credit my defense,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “Ben Riesterer, Nick Guzowski, Bobby Leggon on right, and Jimmy Young on left, those guys played fantastic as a unit. They don’t get beat often.
“With the midfield support, we’ve got everybody marked. Our forwards are starting the get the hang of the runs to space, which has really opened up the middle for us.”
Marshfield plays at Merrill on Tuesday and hosts D.C. Everest next Thursday in a pair of Wisconsin Valley Conference matchups.
