A number of former local high school athletes have moved on to the next level and are playing sports collegiately across the country.
Periodically, MarshfieldAreaSports.com will publish a College Sports Roundup updating readers of some of those local athletes’ exploits at the collegiate level.
A number of local high school graduates competed at the 2018 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 23-24 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Marshfield graduate Calden Wojt, a sophomore for UW-Stevens Point, won the men’s 200 meters in 21.87 seconds and was part of the Pointers’ 1,600-meter relay team that finished fourth in 3:22.21.
Rebecca Voss, a 2014 Marshfield grad and a senior at UW-La Crosse, was second in the women’s 5,000 meters in 17:27.97, 10 seconds behind winner Cheyenne Moore of UW-Oshkosh.
Sylviann Momont, a sophomore at UW-Stevens Point and a 2016 graduate of Auburndale High School, finished seventh in the women’s pentathlon with 2,967 points. She won the 60 meters in 9.38 seconds, was second in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 3 inches, and took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16-11½ in pentathlon competition.
Sara Fuller, a senior on the UW-Whitewater team and a Marshfield graduate, was part of the Warhawks’ women’s distance medley relay team that finished sixth in 12:45.16.
Ashley Holubets, a junior at UW-La Crosse and a 2015 Marshfield grad, took ninth in the 400 meters in 1:00.13 and was part of the Eagles’ 1,600 relay team that took fourth in 4:02.20.
Spencer’s Rachel Zastrow, a junior for La Crosse, finished seventh in the pole vault with a vault of 11-3.
Noah Zastrow, Rachel’s brother and a 2017 graduate of Spencer, competed in a number of events for UW-Stout. He took sixth in the men’s Heptathlon with 4,640 points, placing second in the pole vault (15-5½) and fifth in the long jump (20-9). He also competed in the overall pole vault, taking fifth in 15-7¼).
Alexa Aumann, a freshman at La Crosse and a Marshfield graduate, did not compete due to injury.
Former UW-Platteville athlete Megan Marotz, also a Marshfield grad, is now an assistant coach for the Pioneers.
UW-La Crosse won both the men’s and women’s team titles.
