MADISON – The 2018 WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament was held Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3, at the University of Wisconsin Fieldhouse.
All three state champions from a year ago were back to defend titles, but only one pulled off the trick.
Kaukauna was going for its fifth-straight Division 1 title, but lost in the Division 1 semifinals, and Ellsworth was shooting for its third Division 2 title in a row, however it was upended by Luxemburg-Casco in the D-2 championship match.
Stratford, on the other hand, cruised to its second-straight Division 3 championship, beating St. Croix Falls 47-12 in the semifinals and Fennimore in the finals 47-13.
Stoughton, which defeated Marshfield 47-13 in the Division 1 quarterfinals on Friday, went on to win the D-1 championship by beating Holmen 31-29. This is Stoughton’s first state team title in its 12th appearance at the tournament. Stoughton had lost in the championship match to Kaukauna in each of the past three seasons.
Luxemburg-Casco, which was in its 17th state tournament, won its 12th Division 2 title.
