Owen-Withee girls basketball player Jennifer Wendler has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com February High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Krueger received 44 percent of the nearly 1,100 votes cast.
Other nominees for the February award were Marathon girls basketball player Katelyn Schmidt, and area state wrestling champions Hunter Luepke and Logan Zschernitz of Spencer/Columbus, Jeremy Schoenherr of Stratford, and Stephen Buchanan of Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal.
Wendler, a junior forward, averaged 19 points per game for the Blackhawks in February as they went 4-3 and had their season end with a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal loss to Chippewa Falls McDonell. Wendler had 31 points in a win over Greenwood on Feb. 9, her fifth 30-point game of the season. She had 29 points and 17 rebounds against Abbotsford on Feb. 2, and also had a big game with 28 points in a victory over Loyal on Feb. 12. Wendler was named Cloverbelt Conference East Division Player of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors for the second year in a row. She shared Player of the Year honors in 2017.
The winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced Monday, July 10.

Wendler joins Columbus Catholic boys soccer player Nadim Torbey (September), Marshfield cross country runner Joseph McKee (October), Marshfield boys basketball player Seth Anderson (November), Auburndale boys basketball player Cale Jacoby (December), and Marshfield boys hockey player Ryan Krueger (January) as winners of the award during the 2017-18 school year.
