URBANA, Ill. – The Marshfield girls soccer team opened its 2018 season going 0-3 at the Urbana Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Marshfield lost to host Urbana 3-1 on Friday, and was shutout in a pair of games on Saturday, falling to St. Edward 3-0 and Mahamet-Seymour 5-0.

Nina Hashimoto had Marshfield’s only goal of the tournament in its loss to Urbana.

Megan Wipfli and Mikayla Brueggen split time at goalkeeper and combined for 38 saves in the three games.

“Yes, we lost three games, but accomplished some things we needed to do – play on a full field outside and got a better understanding of the team we have this year,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We had 14 players who saw their first action at the varsity level, so we were able to get a better understanding of their strengths and areas where we can work on.

“We have some nice talent and with more practice and experience we will be fine.”

Marshfield is scheduled to play at Pulaski in a nonconference game Tuesday night.
