COTTAGE GROVE – The Marshfield boys golf team finally started its 2018 season as it competed at a five-team Wisconsin Valley Conference tournament at the Oaks Golf Course near Madison.
Wausau West won the varsity team title with a score of 325, with Stevens Point second with a 332. D.C. Everest had a 341 to finish third and was followed by Marshfield (359) and Wisconsin Rapids (367).
Evan Thomas shot a 77 to best teammate Drew Blair (79) and Josh Yang (79) for individual medalist honors.
Marshfield’s Ben Baur tied for fourth with an 80. Nate Boson added an 86, Josh Gruen shot a 94, Jeffery Berres had a 99, and Cole Hanson had a 109 to round out the Tigers’ scoring.
On the JV side, Marshfield finished third with a score of 410. Stevens Point (378) edged Wausau West (384) for the team title. D.C. Everest was fourth with a 420 and Wisconsin Rapids had a 470.
Jaxson Bulgrin shot a 94 and Blade Berget had a 97 to pace the Tigers JV.
Marshfield will compete at the first leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Friday at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
