WESTON – D.C. Everest buckled up on the defensive end on its way to a 5-0 shutout of Marshfield in a nonconference girls soccer game Tuesday at D.C. Everest Middle School.

Due to excessive postponements during the first three weeks of April, Wisconsin Valley Conference teams will play just once against each opponent this spring starting May 3, so this game was changed to a nonconference matchup.

Everest (3-2-1) outshot Marshfield (0-4) 36-4 and scored in the opening 2 minutes to take the early lead.

Mikayla Brueggen had 16 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield had not been on a soccer field outside since traveling to Illinois for a tournament April 6-7.

“Looking at that (the shot differential) you might think D.C. Everest dominated, but in reality we connected some nice passes and did some very good things out on the field,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “So we accomplished what we needed to do, get all the girls playing time and on a field again.”

Marshfield will play Wausau East at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday and will travel to Ashwaubenon on Friday for nonconference games to close out the week.
