WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield girls soccer team picked up its first victory of the season, downing Wausau East 3-1 in a nonconference game on Thursday in Wisconsin Rapids.
Nina Hashimoto scored twice and Kate Schilling had her first varsity goal to provide the scoring for Marshfield.
Hashimoto’s goals came in the 32nd and 44th minute, with Schilling scoring in the second half.
“Our freshmen are playing lots of minutes and making nice contributions, each one in different aspects, Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Another freshman, Hannah Halle, had opportunities but just missed on a few potential goals.”
Mikayla Brueggen had seven saves in goal for the Tigers.
“We talk about the potential and ability this team has and getting them to gel will be right around the corner,” Lindner said. “We have some vocal leaders who communicate and play with a lot of passion that just shows the younger players how to play at the varsity level. This team has a great mix of youth and junior/senior leadership and they should be a fun team to watch this year.”
Marshfield will travel to Ashwaubenon for a nonconference game on Friday.
