Marshfield boys tennis second at Appleton West, Stevens Point tournaments

The Marshfield boys tennis team competed at a pair of tournaments during the past few days.

Marshfield placed second at the Appleton West Invitational on Saturday and went 2-1 at a dual tournament at Stevens Point on Monday.

At the Appleton West tournament, the Tigers racked up 24 points to finish one point behind meet champion Appleton North.

Marshfield’s No. 1 doubles team of Jared Cordova and Braedon Corteen went a perfect 3-0 to win its bracket.

The No. 2 doubles team of Luke Kaiser and Ayush Shukla, the No. 3 doubles team of Craig Paulman and Lucas Paulman, and Sam Roherty at No. 4 singles each went 2-1 to finish in second place.

Sam Haessly was 2-1 at No. 2 singles and finished third, and Evan Fait was the consolation bracket champion, also finishing 2-1, at No. 1 singles.

Kimberly (19 points), Appleton East (17), Kaukauna (14), Manitowoc (14), Appleton West (7) and Sheboygan South (6) also competed at the tournament.

On Monday at Stevens Point, Marshfield defeated Tomah 7-0 and Onalaska 6-1, and lost 4-3 to Holmen. The Tigers are now 4-1 in dual play this spring.

Cordova and Corteen at No. 1 doubles, Will Fay and Shukla at No. 2 doubles, and the Paulmans at No. 3 doubles all went undefeated for Marshfield.

Marshfield hosts Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet Tuesday at Boson Courts.
