MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls soccer team tied Wausau West 1-1 in a nonconference game Tuesday at Griese Park.

In the first half, Amara Arndt scored her first career varsity goal off a rebound of a shot from Nina Hashimoto for Marshfield’s lone score.

Wausau West tied the game in the 61st minute on a penalty kick.

Goalkeeper Mikayla Brueggen stopped 14 shots on goal for Marshfield (1-4-2), including a number of West attempts midway through the second half.

“We had chances but just did not capitalize,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Our connecting passes were a little shoddy tonight, allowing West to put us on our heels for a fair amount of the game.”

Anna Pappe, Cassidy Kolstad, Makenna Hart and Nicole Simon led the defense effort for the Tigers.

Marshfield hosts Stevens Point at 5 p.m. Friday in another nonconference game. The Tigers will open their revised Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule at Stevens Point on May 8.
