MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield baseball team snapped a six-game losing streak and won its first game of the season with a come-from-behind 6-3 victory over Merrill on Tuesday at Hackman Field.

The game was the home opener for the Tigers, who are now 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

Merrill (1-5, 0-5 WVC) led 2-0 before Marshfield scored once in the fifth inning and had a five-run rally in the sixth to pull ahead for good.

Will Voss threw a complete game for the Tigers, striking out three and walking four while scattering five hits.

“(Voss) did a nice job working out of jams,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “Our hitting keeps trending up. Even though we didn’t score in the first four innings, we were hitting the ball hard right at Merrill players. We finally broke through for one in the fifth and five in the sixth.”

Isaiah Baierl had two doubles. One of those, along with another from Connor Berry, sparked the five-run rally for Marshfield.

Mason Coffren also had a pair of hits and drove in two for the Tigers.

Marshfield plays at Merrill on Thursday.
