OWEN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball team split a doubleheader at Owen-Withee on Tuesday, picking up its first win of the season.
Owen-Withee won the opener 7-3 before the Dons (1-3 overall and Cloverbelt Conference East Division) came back with a 20-7 thumping in Game 2.
Addison Baierl took the loss in the opener for Columbus, striking out four and walking six in six innings. She hit a two-run home run at the plate, and Brooke Neider and Annie Baierl added two hits each for the dons.
Ella Schultz earned the win in Game 2 for the Dons, striking out three in five innings.
Annie Baierl hit a grand slam home run, added a single, and finished with five RBIs. Neider went 3-for-3 with a double, and Addison Baierl also hit a grand slam and had five RBIs.
Sophia Mauney and Ella Schultz both had two hits for the Dons.
Columbus hosts Loyal for a doubleheader Thursday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
