MERRILL – The Marshfield baseball team completed a two-game sweep of Merrill with a 14-5 victory Thursday at Athletic Park.

The Tigers scored two runs in the second inning and added five more in the third to pull ahead for good, then plated some needed insurance runs with a six-run top of the seventh.

Marshfield is now 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference after beating Merrill (1-6, 0-6 WVC) twice this week. The Tigers won at home 6-3 on Tuesday.

Preston Wagner went six strong innings to earn the victory and Riley Boushack finished off the victory, giving up one run and striking out one in the seventh.

“Nice work on the mound by Preston and Riley,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “We had a very good approach at the plate today, being better with our pitch selection.”

Ryan Krueger, Boushack and Ausitn Palacek each had two hits, and Isaiah Baierl and Palacek both had three RBIs to lead the Marshfield offense, which did not strike out once in the game.

Marshfield plays a nonconference doubleheader at Chippewa Falls on Saturday.
