WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield softball team pulled into second place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference standings with a doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.
The Tigers won 10-0 and 4-2 to improve to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in the WVC, surpassing Wisconsin Rapids (7-3, 5-3 WVC) into second place in the conference.
Megan Donahue went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run, and scored four times in the opening game for the Tigers. She also earned the win on the mound, striking out 11 and allowed just two hits in the shutout.
Emily Draeger, Jenna Jakobi, Rhiannon Corozolla, Morgan Nordbeck and Brianna Jakobi added two hits each for the Tigers, with the Jakobis each driving in a pair of runs.
In Game 2, Wisconsin Rapids scored twice in the top of the first inning before Donahue settled in again and struck out 10 in a complete-game victory.
Marshfield rallied with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and another in the sixth.
Jenna Jakobi had three hits, and Donahue, Draeger and Taylor Barwick each had two hits for the Tigers.
Marshfield also played error-free ball in the sweep.
Marshfield hosts Tomah at 5 p.m. Friday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
