AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale softball team rallied from five runs down in the final inning to tie the game and eventually beat Edgar 13-12 in a nine-inning affair Thursday at Auburndale High School.
Edgar scored five times in the top of the seventh to go on top 12-7 before the Apaches rallied to tie the game with a five-run inning of their own.
Auburndale won it with a run in the bottom of the ninth as Hailey Grimm pitched two shutout innings of relief to earn the victory for the Apaches.
Teryn Lau went 4-for-6 and scored three times, Natalie Aue was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Marissa Spatz also had two RBIs for Auburndale.
Grimm and Alexis Soppe both added two hits for the Apaches (3-4, 2-4 Marawood South).
Auburndale hosts Wausau Newman Catholic on Friday.
