SPENCER – The Spencer softball team maintained its lead in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division standings with a doubleheader sweep of Owen-Withee, winning 10-0 and 5-0 at Spencer High School.
Tiffany Meinders pitched four innings in both games to earn the two victories, and combined for 13 strikeouts and had just one walk.
Chloe Drews pitched the final two innings of the opener and Lexi Baehr earned a three-inning save in Game 2 for the Rockets (7-2, 6-1 Cloverbelt East).
Sadie Mercier was 4-for-4 in the first game, scoring four times, and Meinders added three hits and three RBIs.
“I am so proud of the defense that we have been playing,” Spencer coach Laschel Canfield said. “It really allows us to trust the bullpen. Sadie Mercier has such great leadership off the field as well as at the plate.”
Paige Bauer was a perfect 4-for-4 in Game 2, and Chailey Robinson had two hits in each of the games for Spencer.
“Two shutouts in one night, using three pitchers, I couldn’t be more happy with our performance,” Canfield said. “Paige Bauer, getting on base four times in four attempts, just outstanding. She’s really stepping up as a freshman. I love seeing the growth.”
The Rockets play a doubleheader at Loyal on Thursday.
