STEVENS POINT – Nina Hashimota scored 5 minutes into the game but that was all the Marshfield girls soccer team could muster as it dropped a 5-1 decision to Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match Tuesday at the Portage County Youth Soccer Complex.

Abby Gemza and Kaylin Kostuchowski scored before halftime, and Lauren Johnson added a pair of goals in the second half to help Point pull away.

Marshfield was outshot 30-4, with Tigers goalie Mikayla Brueggen tallying 17 saves.

“We got out quick and played strong, but lost our way about 30 minutes into the game and stopped being on the same page as a team,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Overall we played well but versus strong teams, we need to ramp up a little more and we will be fine.”

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday at Griese Park.
