MARSHFIELD – D.C. Everest plated a pair of runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull ahead and held on to beat Marshfield 6-5 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.

The Tigers led 1-0 after an RBI double from Antonia Anaya in the bottom of the third before Everest pulled ahead to stay.

Marshfield scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull within a run, but couldn’t get the tying run across. The Tigers fall to 2-10 overall and 2-6 in the WVC. Everest remains in a first-place tie with Stevens Point at 7-1 in conference play, and moves to 7-2 overall with the road win.

“Tough loss,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said.”All we needed was just one more play of better execution, one more hit with runners on base, or one more dynamic play and we can get a game like this to go in our favor.”

Mason Coffren allowed six runs, only two of which were earned, in 5 1/3 innings. Austin Palacek threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings to keep the Tigers in the game.

Anaya and Brant Bohman each had two hits, and Palacek had a two-run double for the Tigers.

“Mason has shown great improvement over the last few weeks getting higher strike counts,” Bauer said. “He can keep us in any game he’s pitching when he does that. Our outfielders made some catches in this game on some hard hit balls I didn’t think they would get to.”

Marshfield hosts Antigo and Holmen in a tournament on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Hackman Field and Reeths Field. D.C. Everest also will play Antigo and Holmen.
