MARSHFIELD – Marshfield scored seven times on just 13 attempts and blanked Merrill 7-0 in a nonconference girls soccer game Friday at Griese Park.

The Tigers (2-6-2) scored five times in the first half, three coming from Nina Hashimoto, to open up a big lead.

Kate Schilling scored just 2:50 into the game and Kendra Tremelling added another 5½ minutes later to stake Marshfield to a 2-0 lead.

Hashimoto netted a hat track before halftime as the Tigers pulled ahead 5-0.

Nicole Simon scored on a penalty kick and Paige Preston added another for Marshfield.

Abby Kilty and Courtney Meyer each had two assists for the Tigers.

Mikayla Brueggen had six saves in her first career varsity shutout in goal for Marshfield.

“This was a great game for us for the most part as we passed and possessed very well,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We ran some nice diagonal runs and passed where we could lead our teammates into space and took that pass and made playable crosses.

“Again Paige Preston played a nice game and all her hard work played off as she scored her first career varsity goal off a corner kick (by Meyer) heading the ball into the goal.”

The two teams will meet again Tuesday at Merrill for a Wisconsin Valley Conference match.
