Marshfield boys golf fifth at fifth WVC meet

WAUSAU – Ben Baur shot an 82 to tie for sixth place to lead Marshfield to a fifth-place finish at the fifth leg of the 2018 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Friday at Wausau Country Club.

Baur tied Evan Thomas of Stevens Point with an 82, 10 shots behind meet medalist Russell Dettmering of Merrill. Dettmering won medalist honors for the fourth-straight meet.

Baur stands in seventh place in the individual standings with two meets remaining – Tuesday at Stevens Point Country Club and May 18 at Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau.

Marshfield had a team score of 363, three shots behind Merrill. Wausau West won the team title with a 339, three shots better than D.C. Everest and five ahead of Stevens Point. With the meet victory, West pulls into first place in the overall team standings.

Nate Boson shot a 91 to tie for 14th place, Jaxon Bulgrin and Josh Gruen both had 95s, and Cole Hanson shot a 101 to round out the scoring for Marshfield.

Marshfield will compete at the Merrill Invitational on Saturday.
